In the 1990s, Jatech created a disappearing door system for the Lincoln Mark VIII that retracted beneath the car’s body instead of swinging outward. The setup required lengthened doors and retracting glass to clear the B-pillar, leaving a wide, seamless opening that looked futuristic and made entry easier in tight spaces. While it was promoted as stylish and even structurally beneficial, the design proved too mechanically complex and impractical for real-world use, so it never moved beyond the concept stage.
